Therapy for immigrants, expatriates, international students & scholars
Global Mosaïque Care provides a supportive and collaborative environment in which to explore experiences of migration and sociocultural displacement, along with important aspects of life such as family, close relationships, experiences of trauma, professional and educational paths, identity and belonging, internal life and emotions.
Psychotherapy aims to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship and create a safe and honest interpersonal space which will support a growing understanding of oneself within the context of one's family, community and social environment. Depending on one's life experiences, this relationship may take time to develop. Psychotherapy can be nurturing, healing and transformative, and along the way, it can also be painful, frustrating and discouraging. Better understanding oneself through a trusting connection with another person can offer a sense of being seen, understood and validated. But as one takes a closer look at oneself, one's relationships and one's patterns of living, one may also encounter painful emotions, memories and realizations. Increased understanding and knowledge about one's life - a foundation for meaningful change - is usually accompanied by some degree of emotional discomfort.
These different aspects of the psychotherapy process ebb and flow, and over time, lead to greater capacity for reflection and self-awareness, a deeper understanding of others, and meaningful growth and development. This process requires emotional courage and honesty, as well as patience and perseverance as one embarks on a developmental path towards new internal and interpersonal experiences.
My clinical orientation is integrative, with close attention to trauma, culture and context, and a focus on depth and meaning. My approach is based in contemporary relational psychodynamic theory, and influenced by humanistic and liberation psychology, attachment theory, and a multi-perspective international lens. According to individual needs and circumstances, I collaborate with people to implement change in their lives that will support their hopes and intentions for growth.
